Joe is a senior therapist with over 25 years’ experience of helping people to overcome and cope better with a wide range of emotional, psychological and life problems. During Joe’s 10-year nursing career in the NHS, he had the opportunity to work in both hospital and community-based mental health settings as a nurse and therapist with people who were experiencing acute as well as severe and enduring mental health problems, and people who had problems related to drug and alcohol use.
As well as Joe’s experience in the NHS, he has worked as a psychotherapist in a private hospital specialising in eating disorders, and for almost ten years he worked in the Voluntary Sector in Scotland where he developed and managed a new counselling service for people with a wide range of mental health problems.
Joe has also had more than ten years’ experience as a university lecturer teaching on postgraduate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Counselling courses. Joe is experienced in using CBT for the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders such as social anxiety, health anxiety, a panic disorder as well as Generalised Anxiety Disorder and worry. Joe also has experience of working with people experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder related to physical and sexual assault/abuse and road traffic accidents.
