CBT Therapy in Leeds by Naomi Kirby
If you are experiencing difficulties and distress you may be considering seeking help from a professional. I am an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist of 10 years working in Leeds.
I aim to provide a space where you feel listened to. It is important for us to work together to explore and understand what is going on for you and anything that may be keeping issues going. We can consider what other ways issues can be approached and in sessions work to identify and practice any skills and strategies that may help you in working towards your identified goals, so supporting you in making the changes you are looking for. Working on things discussed in appointments out of session forms an important part of CBT.
You may be suffering from depression or anxiety which are the most common mental health issues. CBT is thought to be one of the most useful approaches to working with anxiety and depression. I can also work with other mental health issues like stress, low self- esteem, adverse stress reactions and trauma, excessive worry, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), habit difficulties such as hair pulling, anxiety around health, social anxiety, insomnia and specific phobias. CBT does not claim to be able to cure all the things listed but aims to be able to find different ways to live and cope with the problems.
If you have never tried CBT therapy before you are probably unsure about what will happen, the first step is for you and me to make an appointment to sit down and talk about what you are experiencing and what you are hoping for. I can then advise which area or areas we could focus on to help and we can decide whether CBT might be a useful approach.
I am a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and I have an interest in compassion-focused therapy and mindfulness approaches. I am trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing) and am currently in the process of applying to be an accredited EMDR practitioner, I am also a registered mental health nurse and had over 25 years experience working in the NHS. Clinical supervision, both in the receiving and provision to others, has been fundamental to my work.
Before seeing Naomi, I felt worry was beginning to run my life. Now I still have worries, but they don't consume me. Naomi's sessions allowed me to understand more about how my worries and anxieties work and start to control them. I am so thankful to Naomi and would advise anyone in a similar situation to invest their time in seeing her. (Anonymous due to privacy protection)
